Experimenting with sound

Jamie and I decided on the Recluse idea as we thought it was more open to our current skill with sound. We also both really enjoyed the idea of making a piece unbearable as it would be relating to the 'character' within the project. Before we decide on a real structure within the piece, Jamie and I decided to experiment with sound, so we decided to record some sounds, some more successful than others. The sounds we recorded are:

  • A keyboard tapping
  • Vibrating phone on desk
  • Light switch
  • Draw being open and shut
  • A pan simmering
  • A drink being poured
  • A drink being drank
  • Potatoes being chopped
The recordings sounded good and a lot of them we will use for our piece. Our next step will be to edit them together and see what extra sounds we will need. As sound recordist, my role was to make sure that the sounds were recorded properly and to a good quality. I feel as if I did a good job as the sounds, played back, sound, on the whole, very crisp and clear. Jamie's role is to edit the sounds, however I will be playing a part in the decision making of the edit.
